FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions

Becoming new parents can leave you with many questions and concerns. As part of our prenatal experience, we want to make sure you have all the information so that you can make the best decisions for your baby. Below we have put together a list of some frequently asked questions to help ease your mind.

Can my 3D/4D ultrasound session at First Glimpse replace the ultrasound I have scheduled with my healthcare provider?

No. Our 3D/4D ultrasound sessions are done on an elective basis and are NOT designed to replace the diagnostic ultrasound done as part of your routine prenatal care. In fact, you must be under the care of an obstetrician and have had at least one diagnostic ultrasound before you come to First Glimpse for your 3D/4D experience. Our 3D/4D sessions are elective and are NOT designed to diagnose maternal or fetal health problems. They are a beautiful way to see and bond with your baby before birth – the memories will be forever captured on DVD and the pictures will be preserved on CD for sharing with family and friends.

Is a 3D/4D ultrasound safe for mother and baby?

Yes. 3D/4D ultrasound uses the same sound wave technology that is used for the 2D ultrasounds that have been proven safe and effective for obstetrics for years.

My doctor’s office offers 3D ultrasound – is this different?

Although the technology is the same, the experience is completely different. You may have noticed that most doctors’ offices schedule ultrasounds approximately 15 minutes apart, which makes you feel rushed when you want to take time to experience the excitement of seeing your baby. Our ultrasound sessions are never scheduled less than 30 minutes apart. We do this so that we can take time to provide the best experience possible for you and your guests. We will do everything we can to obtain the best images possible including providing cold beverages to mom, having mom walk around, or repositioning mom if we need the baby to change positions. Most doctors’ offices simply do not have the time to try to obtain the best images possible for an “elective” procedure. In addition, doctor’s offices have a very “clinical” setting that isn’t very relaxing or enjoyable. At First Glimpse your ultrasound will be done in a very warm, relaxed, spa-like setting. Your entire session will be viewed on a 55” flat screen LCD monitor so that everyone can see. If you have an even larger party, we have a guest viewing area with a 65" HD flatscreen TV. In addition, our service includes not only a DVD of your entire session, but most packages also include a CD with ALL of the pictures we take during your session. Most obstetricians print a limited number of pictures on “thermal” paper – these images will fade out over time. A 3D/4D ultrasound is not covered by insurance whether you have it done at your doctor’s office or at First Glimpse. Our packages start at $99, which is less than you would typically pay to have an additional “elective” ultrasound at a physician’s office. Remember, however, that this experience does NOT REPLACE a DIAGNOSTIC ultrasound done by your physician.

Are there any discounts or special offers available?

We periodically offer discounts through our advertising partners such as Georgia Family Magazine and Around Town North Macon magazine. We also honor our military and teachers by offering a 10% discount on ultrasound and massage packages with ID. In addition, we have a featured prenatal product discounted each month. Also, don't forget to refer your friends to First Glimpse. Have them list you on the registration form as the person who referred them.

Do I have to have an appointment for a 3D/4D ultrasound session at First Glimpse?

Yes. We want everyone to have the best experience possible, which means that we want to take the time to obtain the best images possible. In order to accomplish this it is important that everyone have an appointment so that our sonographer can spend that appropriate amount of time with each client. We do usually have appointments available on short notice though, so call us and we will try to make arrangements for you.

Will the 3D pictures of my baby always be clear?

We will do our absolute best to obtain clear images of your baby. However, there are some circumstances that are out of the control of our sonographer and may impact the quality of your images. The position of the baby, the amniotic fluid level, and the placental placement are all potential obstacles to capturing clear images. We will take our time and try to overcome these issues should they arise. We can give mom something cold to drink, have mom walk around, or reposition mom to try to change the position of the baby. Staying well hydrated during the 10-14 days prior to your ultrasound session is the most effective way to avoid obstruction associated with amniotic fluid level.

Can I bring guests to my ultrasound session?

Absolutely! We encourage you to bring guests to share this memorable event with you. Siblings, parents, and friends are always welcome at First Glimpse. This is truly a unique experience, and sharing it with those close to you will make it even more special. We have room for approximately 3-4 guests in the ultrasound room. In addition, we have a separate viewing area in the back room with a large flat screen TV and chairs so that more guests can sit there and watch.

How far into my pregnancy should I be to have a 3D/4D ultrasound at First Glimpse?

We have packages starting as early as 16 weeks. We recommend our gender determination 2D/3D/4D package from 16-22 weeks. Our 3D/4D 30 minute sessions are typically best from 24-34 weeks. Because your baby is changing so much during that time frame, many people will decide to have two 3D/4D sessions between weeks 24 and 34. Try to call approximately two to three weeks before your desired appointment date to ensure availability during your optimal time frame. However, if you are unable to call that far in advance, we will still probably have something available that will work for you.

How long is an ultrasound session at First Glimpse?

Our 2D/3D/4D session is 15-20 minutes long although we set aside 30 minutes for the session so that we can take the time to get the best images possible, which may mean that we need to reposition mom or give her something cold to drink. After your session, you will need approximately 10-15 minutes to select the pictures you want to print (remember that most packages also include your pictures on CD.)
Our 3D/4D sessions are 30 minutes in length although we set aside 45 minutes for the session so that we can take our time and get the best images possible. In addition, you will need 10-15 minutes after your session to select the pictures you want printed – although most packages also include a picture CD with all of the images obtained during your session.

Is your massage therapist well qualified to do Prenatal Massage?

Absolutely! All reputable massage therapy studios have Certified Massage Therapists (CMT). However, during a typical massage therapy training program prenatal massage is only scarcely covered. In order to be specifically certified to do “Prenatal” Massage, a therapist should have had ADDITIONAL training in prenatal massage beyond that which was part of his/her CMT program. Our massage therapist attended the Kate Jordan Seminar “Bodywork for the Childbearing Year” which is a nationally recognized program for training and certification of prenatal massage therapists. Whether or not you choose First Glimpse for your prenatal massage needs, please verify that your therapist is well-qualified in prenatal massage therapy.

How early in my pregnancy can I schedule my gender determination appointment?

We offer gender determination packages beginning at 16 weeks! If we cannot identify the gender of your baby with certainty, we will allow you to come back one week later at no additional cost to you!

When can I have a Prenatal Massage?

You can have a prenatal massage any time during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy.

Can all pregnant women have prenatal massages?

If you are thought to be at risk for preterm labor or if you are at increased risks for blood clots associated with your pregnancy you should discuss prenatal massage therapy with your healthcare provider.

Do I need a note from my doctor in order to schedule an ultrasound appointment?

No, we do not require a note from your doctor. However, we do require that you are under the care of an obstetrician and that you have had at least one diagnostic ultrasound prior to your First Glimpse experience.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! We have gift certificates available for any package or for any dollar amount you would like. This is a great gift for any expectant mother! Show how thoughtful you are by surprising someone you love with a gift certificate for her to get pampered with a prenatal massage, get an extra chance to see her baby in 3d/4d clarity, or purchase great prenatal items. With a gift certificate from First Glimpse, the choice is hers!

I would recommend this place over and over. The staff was extremely nice & very patient with our little girl when she didn’t want to cooperate with us. Sadly we didn’t get many pictures so they offered us a free redo later that week, when we came back our baby girl put on a show and we had the most amazing experience! I will never go to any other place but First Glimpse for my ultrasound needs!

I went about 2 months ago and Callie scanned me. She did a fantastic job!! My baby was very uncooperative even after caffeine and had her face smushed against my placenta. She was extremely patient and got lots of great pictures of her, working past the regular amount of time to make sure we left with pictures of our stubborn little girl. The experience was amazing. I highly recommend asking for Callie when you go!

Best experience! We loved the intimate setting and getting to see our little girl without feeling rushed like you do at the doctor's office. I especially loved that when the couple before us couldn't see the gender (stubborn baby) they were told to go get some caffeine to get the baby moving and then to come right back to try again that's a sign of truly amazing customer service!
